This group project was done in my sixth semester of university in collaboration with Sandy Gisler and Tyra Schurf, under the guidance of Professor Etienne Heinrich. The aim of the course was to design a brand identity for a fictional reality show.
We developed a brand identity for the show that emphasizes the mystery and darkness of an escape room. We wanted to use our own filmed footage to have complete creative control over the opener while maintaining a distinctive and recognizable graphic style.

You could say that Tyra and Sandy focused more on filming and editing while I focused on animation, but this would not fully reflect our collaborative process, as our contributions often overlapped. Nevertheless, the following showcases the work I was most involved in.

Typography

We explored a wide range of typefaces to find one that could convey the mood of the show without feeling too old-fashioned or whimsical. We chose the blackletter typeface Velthoven Black Regular for its simplicity compared to other blackletter fonts, paired with Sheepman Light for situations where readability is more important.

Logo

The logo was designed to evoke a sense of an old, worn-out manor, like the one featured in the opener. We first designed it in Illustrator, then had it carved into a linoleum plate by Tyra, printed, scanned, and cleaned up by Sandy, and finally animated by me.

Foot Prints and Tracking
One of the shots in the opener features the floor plan of the manor. I drew the floor plan, Sandy aged it with coffee and torn edges, Tyra filmed it, and I animated and tracked the glowing footprints across it.

Closer
The background consists of several scene wipes animated by Tyra. I took these elements and composited them into this simple closer.

The Lower Third
The lower thirds were designed for the interview scenes, with each one tailored to the contestant’s profession or skill. I designed and animated them.
