The Girl and The Sword
An Analog Loop with Cel Animation
INFOS
„The Girl and the Sword“ is an analog animation project completed during my summer semester of 2025.
Using overhead projector sheets, Sharpies, and acrylic paint, the loop mimics the old style of cel animation, which uses transparent sheets and cameras to create the illusion of movement.
This animation was created during my 4th semester film project class taught by Tim Dübbert, in which we were tasked with creating an animated loop using analog techniques such as stop motion, clay, paper, and so on.
This project was the first project that pushed me through several aspects. It pushed me into realizing my passion, my strenghts, my weaknesses, my learning capabilities and my priorities. This was probably the most fun I had during any project. Trying to figure out how I can brute force myself through cel animation without any actual proper tools made me realize that I am tougher than I thought.
It also pushed me through several all nighters.
